Week 153 of Trying to Become a Published Author
I did actually write words for this week. There is just one small problem… the words weren’t for my book.
I had a paper due in my lab course and I ended up writing roughly 1,444 words describing and analyzing the hysteresis graphs my group conjured up. Only a few days later, I had to balance attending a STEM conference while pumping up 300 word responses for my creative writing minor courses. In other words…the new draft itself has definitely not been started yet.
Good news? It isn’t ready to be started yet. I just finished up my rough outline and realized there are a lot of topics I need to research before I feel prepared enough to attack Draft 2.5, especially since the plot got a major overhaul. I caved and treated myself to a license for Plottr, where I can happily move around color coded scenes and fill out multiple character sheets as I please.
I am obsessed with lists so here’s a look at what I still need to research (bonus points if you can figure out what my book is about based on this).
Different military ranks in the United States
Military training protocols
Short term and long-term effects of radiation
Paraplegic orthotics
I decided to put AI to good use and make it create a rough schedule for me to try and adhere to if I want to be self-published by May 2026. Technically, between now and June should be a rest period, but I think I’m going to switch it around so that I hammer out the research and ideally the draft now and then take a break. Theoretically, if I have everything, I could possibly need to write this draft without getting stuck I should write it pretty fast right? …..Right?
